Kate + David:: Broadturn Farm

Hold me like water in your hand and let me flow into your heart...

Kate + David were married at Broadturn Farm, an amazing organic CSA not far from my home. Kate is a dancer and David is a writer. They live in NYC, so when they decided on a beautiful outdoor wedding in Maine, I'm sure the possibility of rain was far from their minds. But rain it did, a cold, hard rain. Not the type of rain anyone should have to get married in. But they were so graceful and excepting about the circumstances. Kate didn't stop smiling the entire day. I told them not to worry, the rain makes for some breathtaking images. I have a lot of experience shooting in hard weather conditions, thanks to my landscape photography background--when it's stormy, I'm chasing the light. Choosing an experienced photographer can make all the difference at your outdoor wedding, especially if the weather decides to not cooperate. Kate and David didn't have the sunlit field ceremony they had hoped for. Instead they smiled and moved their ceremony under their tent. I was not permitted to photograph the exchange of vows, for religious reasons, a first for me. But the moments in between were so moving, the joy this couple shares is legendary. While the sun didn't show her face, we had fields upon fields of blooming sunflowers to shine down on us and that was plenty. To Kate and David, I wish you all the joy in the world.

Monhegan:: a Portrait

Every summer I make the time to return to one of my favorite places in Maine, Monhegan Island. I've been working on a book, shooting Monhegan over a period of five years, I hope to have it out by this Christmas season.

Monhegan is pure. simple. Maine. it's quirky, tempermental, and beyond beautiful.
It's also a beautiful place to consider being married, if you can hack a 10 mile ferry ride, limited luxuries, and some amazing views!
