When I was in Oahu a few weeks ago I got to witness a very touching moment at the Pearl Harbor Memorial. Amid hundreds of tourists a woman and her son quietly tossed five red roses over the fallen ship and then with tears in her eyes, she reached into her pocket and withdrew a small tin canister. Thank you to all the men and woman who have 'laid so costly a sacrifice upon the alter of freedom.' I pray for a day when peace is the only word that we know and no more children join you in the twilight of war.
